Electrician Schools in Washington

Electrician schools in Washington prepare students for a career as a licensed electrician through apprenticeship style training working alongside an electrician. Students learn both inside and outside of the classroom. Each year students complete approximately 144 hours in class and 2,000 hours outside working on-the-job. Most apprenticeships are paid positions. Agencies are used to supply National Electrical Code (NEC) training, and include such locations as community colleges, electrical trade union chapters and local contractors. Students must apply to the program and be accepted in order to complete an apprenticeship. A minimum of a GED or high school diploma is necessary to be eligible. The state of Washington also requires an acceptable score on a state issued aptitude test.

The job market is ideal for electricians. The U.S. Department of Labor expects the occupation to increase by 12% within the next 10 years. The licensing agency for the state of Washington is the Electrical Division of the Department of Labor and Industries. After program completion and certification, graduates will be qualified for entry-level electrician jobs.
