Colorado Technical University

Our undergraduate and graduate degree programs are specifically career focused and career driven in order to provide our students with the competitive edge they need in the pursuit of their dream job.
At CTU, students in our degree programs are also given the opportunity to build their resumes by earning Academic Certificates. Academic Certificates not only enable a student to achieve a certain sense of accomplishment while learning, but they also add meaningful credentials that can identify and direct a student to an employer in a highly volatile and competitive job market.
Associate of Science in Electronics Technology
The Associate of Science in Electronics Technology (ASET) program will not only give you the skills you need to work in this thrilling field, but it also provides you with a basic undergraduate college education. As a participant in the ASET degree program you will be accomplishing the first two years of either the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) degree programs.
To be successful in the ASET degree program, you will need to have a strong math background.
After completing the ASET degree program, students will have mastered the following topics:
- DC and AC circuits and electronics (including hours of lab experience)
- analysis and design of digital hardware and computer architecture
- how to solve problems and trouble-shoot
- integrated-circuit (IC) digital electronics design
- modern use of computer simulation tools
- laboratory equipment
- essential communication skills that will prepare them for future career opportunities.
What are the possible career opportunities?
The entire spectrum of product and system analysis, testing and support is used by many companies in today's world. In commercial work, companies employ people with an associate degree to serve as technicians and interns in the process of manufacturing, testing, and evaluating integrated circuit products (chips.) Many companies have a solid customer focus and often employ technicians or technologists for products support.
In the government contractor field, technologists are needed to work on national defense. Businesses are looking for employees and interns that know how to use command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Completion of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree program will enable you to take part in a complex and useful field of engineering. Electrical engineers have made thrilling discoveries that we use in everything from monitoring vehicles through global positioning technology to powering our wireless technology with sub-micron, integrated circuit (IC) chips.
Here at BSEE, we have two primary goals. The first objective is to help students develop the discipline and knowledge they need to work as entry-level electrical engineers, and the second is to get students ready to enter the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) program.
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has granted accreditation to Colorado Technical University's BSEE degree program.
Students graduating from the BSEE degree program may:
- Apply mathematics, science and engineering to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.
- Students will also be able to design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data.
- Design a system, component or process to fulfill specific needs within the context of digital systems, electronics systems and communication systems.
- In a global and societal context, assess the impact of engineering solutions.
- Use the techniques, the skills and the most up-to-date engineering tools for modern engineering practice.
What are some career opportunities that are possible?
In today's world, there are numerous business that are somehow involved in designing, testing, and supporting products and systems. Some commercial companies do employ electrical engineers to design, improve and test integrated circuit products (chips), and others employ electrical engineers for product support which tends to have a heavy customer focus. Government contractor firms need electrical engineers to design the command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems which are the mainstay of national defense.
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
Advanced communications equipment, defense-related electronics and cutting edge technologies in integrated circuit (IC) and computer system design have created endless career prospects for electrical engineers.
This program, the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering ( MSEE), provides the current knowledge needed to succeed in developing and changing electrical engineering jobs. This program, in particular, stresses the comprehensive study of digital communications, CMOS technology and computer architecture. In addition, MSEE students will have the skills and knowledge to serve as project managers and take on leadership roles in the field of engineering.
Once students have completed the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree, they will know how to:
- design space communication systems, as well as other advanced digital and spread-spectrum systems
- model CMOS circuitry
- design computer architectures
- Use project management techniques effectively
What are some possible career opportunities?
It is true that most companies hire engineers with Bachelor's degrees for entry-level electrical positions, but more and more, firms are wanting people with advanced understand and expanding knowledge and abilities. The defense industry especially needs project managers, systems engineers, and senior electrical engineers to help in designing the next generation of C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) systems.
